The Engineering Medical Fund Board has stipulated waiting periods to members joining medical aid for the first time or where there has been a lapse in membership.

These waiting periods include:-

Three (3) Months

There is a general three (3) months waiting period imposed upon a new member but if the person had been a member of a previous Medical Aid Society for two (2) years and applies to join the Fund within three (3) months after the termination of his membership of the previous Society, he/she will not be subjected to the three(3) months waiting period.

Six (6) Months For:-

  • Specialist Treatment
  • MRI and CT Scans
  • Pre-existing conditions at the time of joining for which one is subsequently hospitalised
  • Spectacles and contact lenses
  • Insulin

Nine (9) Months For:-

  • Maternity Benefits

Twelve (12) Months For:-

  • Internal Prosthetic Devices
  • Homes requiring constant nursing-care

Twenty-Four (24) Months For:-

  • Haemodialysis
  • Chemotherapy (drugs used in the treatment of cancer)

These waiting periods fall in line with Medical Services Act S.I. 300 of 2000 Clause 13 (1).
